Attorney Christopher Amato
Christopher Amato, staff attorney at Earthjustice’s Northeast office in NYC, recently resigned from New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation, where he worked as assistant commissioner for natural resources. At DEC he oversaw a staff of six hundred and a $200 million budget. He also supervised management of the Forest Preserve in the Adirondacks and Catskills.
A graduate of Albany Law School, Amato had been in private practice just before joining DEC four and a half years ago. Earlier in his career, he worked as a lawyer for six years in the state attorney general’s office, rising to deputy chief of the Environmental Protection Bureau. Before that, he served as an attorney in the Adirondack Park Agency and New York City Law Department. In the 1990s, he worked for a time as a sea-kayak guide and fisheries biologist in Washington State.
